When performed with a hammer, the demolition of kerbs is not only time-consuming, but also involves a degree of imprecision, and in the case of viaducts, strong vibrations to the structure. Also due to these factors, it was decided for a project on the SS 685 national road outside Spoleto to perform specialty milling using a GTF 400 RC attached with an SM 1200 cutter head. The solution proved ideal for demolishing a kerb having a 120 cm width and 10 cm thickness.
